The Wales, Australia, Canada, Japan and Fiji teams all play in Cardiff in the Rugby World Cup 2007, so to find a hotel in or near Cardiff you should book ahead

The Rugby World Cup 2007 is being mainly held in France, but Cardiff's Millennium Stadium hosts some matches too. Wales play both Australia and Japan, and Canada face Fiji, and these are followed by a quarter-final play-off. Demand for hotels in Cardiff will be great, but luckily there are some great Cardiff hotels including the one which is the home of the Wales rugby team.

The Vale Hotel, Hensol, Vale of Glamorgan

The Vale is the home base for the Wales rugby union team, who use the sports hotel's indoor training pitch and other facilities, such as the two championship golf courses and the biggest spa in Wales. Visiting soccer and other sports teams also use the Vale for matches at the Millennium Stadium, so you might find yourself having breakfast next to one of your sporting idols if you stay here. Two excellent restaurants too, and it was the winner of an award for leading spa resort in Wales in the World Travel Awards 2006. The Vale is a 4-star hotel but is very reasonably priced.

*

St David's Hotel and Spa, Cardiff Bay

This was Cardiff's first 5-star hotel and has a great location out on Cardiff Bay, ideal for the nightlife in the area, and the Cardiff Millennium Centre too. Catch a bus, train or taxi for the short ride into the city centre and the Cardiff Millennium Stadium. Every room has a balcony and a view of Cardiff Bay, and there are superb spa and dining facilities too.

Park Plaza, Greyfriars Road

This 4-star hotel won the AA Hotel of the Year Award for Wales in 2006-7, which says a lot for its stylish comfort. It is right in the city centre and an easy stroll to the Millennium Stadium. The Laguna Restaurant and Bar, and the Laguna Health and Spa are both highly rated too.

*

Llanerch Vineyard B&B, Hensol

Not far from the Vale Hotel, and a wonderful location if you don't mind the drive into the city centre. The compensation for that is that you're staying on a vineyard which produces award-winning Welsh wine and whose owner Peter Andrews is a keen rugby fan who will be going to Nantes to promote Welsh wine for the two matches Wales play there.

*

The Big Sleep, Bute Terrace

Owned by movie star John Malkovich, the opening of the Big Sleep showed that you can have high-style hotels without high prices. Book ahead for bargain rates at this boutique-style hotel, spectacularly converted from a 1960s office block.

Adam Coxhead :
Does anyone have any advice on finding accomodation in Cardiff over the weekend of the RWC quarter final 5-6 October 2007? Everything seems to be well booked!

Thanks
